Gear of the Year Award in 2010. Id have to say that the Superlight bivy has been the one piece of backpacking gear that has had the biggest impact on my camping experience and comfort. Its a very flexible piece of ultralight gear than can be used in a variety of situations to increase your sleeping comfort. Was designed to be used with overhard protection or shelter in the rain. It is not waterproof! The main functions of the SuperLight Solo Bivy are. To be part of a total sleep heat retention system adding 5 15 degrees of warmth, especially when even a slight wind gets under or around and into your shelter. Built in ground cloth. To protect from any blown or splashed rain /snow that gets in under your overhead shelter. To shave weight from a total shelter system. Its a 7 oz multi-purpose piece of gear that allows for a lighter sleeping bag, a smaller overhead shelter, and no ground cloth, or extra bug protection system. It can be used alone for night temps above about 65 degrees when you do not need a sleeping bag but do need some wind/water protection. It adds a bit of warmth like a sheet. It can be used alone, with no overhead tarp, for cowboy camping on rainless nights. It pairs perfectly with a backcountry-style quilt to limit warm air venting during night moves. By putting your sleep pad inside the bivy you increase the sleep pads thermal efficiency by limiting convective heat loss. Our GoodNight EVA Foam Pad is a great addition to this Bivy. This Large Bug Bivy is a lightweight and compact alternative for complete bug protection either under the stars or under many different tarps and tents. It comes in three sizes: Standard, Large, and X Large. The standard size is fine for a child or small person; the large, a normal size adult; the X large, a large person or an adult with a child. This listing is for a Large Bug Bivy for a normal size adult. The head has a shock-corded Easton alumimun pole that keeps the noseeum away from the face. You can also set it up without the shock-corded front pole. It has a 2.5 high bathtub made from 30d silnylon. Other floor materials are available like 70d silnylon and dyneema. The zipper starts midway down one side, goes across the head, and then continues midway down the other side. The bivy uses three stakes to set up. The dimensions of this Large Bug Bivy are 32″ width in the front, 24″ height in the front, 24″ width in the foot, 12″ height in the foot, and about 88 in length. A normal size adult up to about 6′ 6 can easily fit inside. The mesh is 3/4 oz noseeum and the floor is 1.35oz (30d) silnylon. 32″ wide at front, 24″ height at the front, and 88 long.
